Columbia Global is pleased to announce the third cohort of Social Impact Fellows. The "Social Impact Fellowship" is a summer and academic year-long program for rising Columbia University juniors and seniors who desire to explore careers in social impact and use their talents to help solve complex global challenges. Students across Columbia University were invited to apply to the 2024-2025 cohort.
Selected from a rich applicant pool, the nine Social Impact Fellows come from Columbia College, the School of General Studies and Barnard College. They will spend five weeks in residence at Columbia World Projects over the summer, followed by participation in Columbia Global programming during the coming academic year.
The Social Impact Fellowship was the first program to be launched by CWP to provide education and training opportunities to help advance human welfare and confront the great challenges of our time. The program is designed to expand the students’ community, increase their exposure to social impact career paths and journeys, build skills to pursue their own social impact careers and areas of interest, and deepen their understanding of collaborative, multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving.
During the five-week summer session of workshops and seminars, students will deepen their knowledge and build new skills to confront complex global challenges. They will remain engaged with Columbia World Projects during the academic year, completing a capstone project and receiving mentorship. Students will have an opportunity to meet thought leaders and social impact innovators, including participants in the Obama Foundation Scholars Program at Columbia University. The Social Impact Fellowship will be offered annually for Columbia juniors and seniors.
“We are very excited to welcome a third cohort of Social Impact Fellows this year,” said Lisa Dolberry Hancock, CWP’s director of Learning and Innovation. “The students selected to participate in the fellowship have demonstrated a commitment to tackling critical societal challenges and making a positive impact in the world. The fellowship will provide an opportunity for these emerging leaders to explore career possibilities and learn tools and strategies for effective social impact.”
