Enrique Ortiz
Enrique’s journey to becoming an undergraduate student has not followed the traditional path and has included many obstacles. He is a Psychology major at Columbia School of General Studies with plans to obtain a Master's degree. He is also a professional musician and hopes to couple his musical skills with therapy. Enrique’s goal is to return to his community in San Diego, California, near the US-Mexico border as a therapist working with marginalized groups, including immigrants and those impacted by the justice system. Enrique is a recipient of the Program in Academic Leadership and Service Scholarship and has been nominated for the James P. Shenton Essay Prize in Contemporary Civilization. He believes the Social Impact Fellowship will provide him with the necessary skills and experience to make positive change and open opportunities to network with other social activists to bring resources to underserved communities.
