Alexandra Khodorova
Alexandra is a rising junior at Barnard College majoring in Medical Humanities. By applying the interdisciplinary framework of the major, which combines biological sciences, humanities and the languages, Alexandra will address the importance of social context in sex education. The lack of formal sex education in schools in Alexandra’s home country led her to rely on open family conversations to learn about reproductive health. Inspired by her mother's life-altering experiences, resulting from a lack of knowledge about reproductive health and its diverse economic, cultural, and religious aspects, Alexandra is committed to fostering her passion for promoting inclusive sex education. Her work during the Social Impact Fellowship will be focused on proving that complex social challenges can be addressed only through well-rounded cross-sector collaboration. By leveraging insights from the Obama Scholars and Columbia World Projects mentors, she hopes to craft a project with tangible effects on education approaches and public policies.
