Machaela Parkin
Machaela Parkin is a recent transfer student and rising junior at the School of General Studies, where she is majoring in Human Rights, with the hope of eventually pursuing a career in public interest law. A proud bilingual Spanish speaker, Machaela has been involved with a variety of immigration advocacy organizations, including the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES), International Rescue Committee, and Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. She is also a volunteer Spanish and Ukrainian translator and interpreter at Respond Crisis Translation. She is specifically interested in working with unaccompanied minors as well as immigrant survivors of trafficking and domestic violence. As a first generation college student, Machaela applied to the Social Impact Fellowship to gain valuable career building skills in the field of public interest work. She is excited to meet like-minded peers through the program and take advantage of the opportunity to learn as much as possible.
