Johanna Martinez
Johanna Martinez is a rising junior at Columbia College studying Sustainable Development and Public Health. Johanna founded her non-profit The Blue Jay Foundation in 2015 and has since channeled her passion for service through various initiatives in the tristate area and Ecuador. Some of these projects have included donating educational supplies to low-income students and hygienic and winter supplies for immigrant women, and “Vitales Ecuador,” an initiative providing more accessible health services to Indigenous Ecuadorians. Johanna applied to the Social Impact Fellowship for the mentorship opportunities and to learn from her peers. She hopes to develop her leadership skills further in order to create a larger impact through her non-profit. She is particularly interested in learning how to maintain momentum and longevity of impact through more advanced ways of evaluating and monitoring social impact. Johanna hopes to explore this topic in connection to and at the intersection of her social impact areas of interest, including sustainability and gender equality.
