Alex Mohan Kandathil
Alex Mohan Kandathil, an urban designer driven by an enthusiasm for unravelling the intricacies of collective practices that shape cities and influence broader urban systems. With a postgraduate degree in urban design, I am interested in an interdisciplinary practice that employs diverse mediums—text, video, field research, and documentation—to delve into pressing urban issues. An engagement with community-based organizations has equipped me with a versatile skill set and diverse methodologies to work through a bottom-up approach. My work aims to uncover the spatial politics that affect public resource access, exploring the intersectionality of land, caste, and gender within the fabric of urban life. I integrate theoretical frameworks with hands-on research and community-based methodologies to document and analyze the politics of public space. Currently, I serve as a Co-Principal Investigator in the PRISM Project, funded by VREF (Volvo Research and Educational Foundations) and managed by Columbia University, where I contribute to critical investigations into informal transport systems and urban mobility.
