Yoanna Pumpalova
Yoanna Pumpalova, MD is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical School. She is also a practicing medical oncologist at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia. Dr. Pumpalova sub-specializes in the treatment of patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer, with a specific interest in colorectal cancer.
The goal of Dr. Pumpalova’s grant-funded research program is to improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with cancer in low and middle-income countries. She currently works in South Africa on early detection of colorectal cancer and in the Dominican Republic on colorectal cancer screening. She also studies the impact of HIV on the development, presentation, and outcomes of people living with HIV and breast and colon cancer. Dr. Pumpalova is also the principle investigator of several industry-sponsored therapeutic clinical trials for patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
