Columbia Global is excited to announce its seventh cohort of Obama Foundation Scholars at Columbia University — a remarkable group of 12 leaders from around the world who are committed to tackling some of today’s most pressing global challenges.
"The need for innovative, determined leaders has never been greater. This cohort of Scholars represent the kind of thinkers and doers who are essential for navigating and addressing complex issues by bringing fresh perspectives, bold ideas, and a deep commitment to making the world a better place," said Wafaa El-Sadr, executive vice president of Columbia Global.
This year's cohort brings a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to Columbia. From advocating for gender equity and refugee rights to promoting environmental sustainability and civic engagement, these Scholars are each a champion of change in their own right, dedicated to making an impact in their communities and beyond.
Throughout the academic year, our Scholars will engage deeply with the Columbia community to acquire the tools, networks, and knowledge needed to amplify their impact. Scholars participate in a variety of activities, including a weekly seminar, personal and professional development workshops, audited courses at Columbia University, a thought leadership speaker series, and bespoke programming crafted by Columbia World Projects in collaboration with the Obama Foundation.
“These Scholars bring with them a wealth of talent, passion, and a deep commitment to making a difference in their communities and beyond. By joining our global network of leaders, they will not only gain valuable insights and support but also contribute to a collective effort to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We are confident that, together, they will maximize their potential and make their local impact global,” said Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation.
Initiated in 2018, the Obama Foundation Scholars program aims to inspire, empower, and connect the next generation of leaders, equipping them to make more substantial contributions to their global communities. While one group of Scholars is hosted at Columbia University, another cohort joins the program at the University of Chicago. Throughout the year, Scholars partake in joint activities that are facilitated by the Obama Foundation.
