Columbia World Projects (CWP) and the New York City Pandemic Response Institute (PRI) hosted a discussion on equitable post-disaster response, recovery and rebuilding.
Too commonly, disasters affect the poorest and most marginalized members of society, and rebuilding efforts disproportionately neglect and can even harm these groups. Panelists Wafaa El-Sadr, CWP; Ira Katznelson, CWP; Mona Fawaz, American University of Beirut; and Mitch Stripling, PRI; discussed findings and recommendations from CWP’s report, Rebuilding Beirut: A Roadmap for an Equitable Post-Disaster Response, and the PRI’s support to New York City agencies to prevent, prepare, respond to and recover from major public health threats.
