The Social Impact Fellowship at Columbia World Projects (CWP), a program designed to deepen student knowledge and build skills for careers that address global challenges, is accepting undergraduate student applications until March 27. Columbia College News caught up with a few of the current fellows.
Johanna Martinez CC’24, one of eight inaugural Fellows at CWP, founded the nonprofit The Blue Jay Foundation. She enrolled at Columbia College to study sustainable development and public health, to complement the work her foundation does, and was excited to discover the CWP program which offers the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning.
“With my nonprofit, I’ve had to learn a lot of things on my own,” Martinez says. “However, the fellowship taught me that there are so many amazing people with knowledge, passion and experiences who can help me in my journey. I learned that asking for help is key and to continually be open to exploring new aspects, ideas and areas for improvement.”
The program begins in July 2023 with a fully funded, five-week summer session of interactive programming and continues through the academic year with mentoring and skill-building engagements. Applications are being accepted until Monday, March 27.
