Event details
Cities like Bengaluru sit at the intersection of rapid urbanization, water scarcity, and climate uncertainty. As monsoon patterns shift and peri-urban landscapes transform, everyday rituals and infrastructures reveal the stakes of a changing watershed.
In “Celebrating the Monsoon in Bengaluru,” student work from a summer workshop—scrolls, collages, and videos—traces narratives and rituals around water and the manmade chain of lakes in Bengaluru’s peri-urban area. Installed in the Avery 200 gallery beginning November 10, 2025, the exhibition builds on a first presentation at the MOD Foundation in early August, developed in collaboration with students and faculty from the Water Studio at CEPT University (Ahmedabad, India). Three short films—Introduction to Site Visits, Bengaluru Water Crisis, and Towards Watershed Urbanism—introduce the sites, unpack the crisis, and outline a Watershed Urbanism approach.
The exhibition also highlights the ongoing Social Impact Seed Award research, supported by Columbia World Projects, which focuses on the role of drainage channels in a micro watershed of the Budigere Series.
Please join us on December 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in Avery 100 for a presentation and reception in conjunction with the exhibition.
